Konami’s long-awaited Metal Gear 4 title had amassed sales of 686,254 last year; 476,334 in its first week alone. The game is cited as the PS3’s top seller as part of a wider list of the 100 top-selling games of last year.

Sadly to fans and perhaps a sign of how the industry has changed, Metal Gear Solid 4 ranks in at eleventh. Ahead of it are nine games for Nintendo consoles, with Wii Sports (non bundled in Japan) sitting in tenth, Animal Crossing City Folk in eighth, Rhythm Tengoku Gold in six, and Mario Kart Wii in fourth.

Badass U.S. General with Howie Long like haircut: check

Badass U.S. General calling commies sons of bitches: check

Badass U.S. General with dialogue from B action movies: check

This is just a little glimpse of what we can notice from three new teasing screenshots of the Operation: Anchorage DLC for Fallout 3, coming out January 27th for the Xbox 360 and PC.

Besides the awesomeness and bravado of General Chase, the other two screenshots shows U.S. soldiers in T-51b Power armors and the infamous Vertibird from the Enclave forces.

CHAOS;HEAD NOAH to receive Z rating.

Posted in Japan, News, Xbox 360 with tags , , , , , , , on January 13, 2009 by atalantegg

It has been announced that the Xbox 360 videogame, “CHAOS;HEAD NOAH” will receive the Z rating in Japan, making it required that the buyer be at least 18 years old.  (If you wish to see a list of Z-rated games in Japan, go to this site).

“CHAOS;HEAD NOAH” is an enhanced port of a PC visual novel (named “CHAOS;HEAD), which became somewhat popular within the market.  Various works have been produced off of it, include a manga and recent anime series.  The game is somewhat of a murder mystery, in which the main character (Takumi Nishijō) witnesses a grusome murder on the way back home for school.  More gruesome events happen, and Takumi must try to avoid being murdered while struggling to fight his delusions.  These delusions are a core part of the gameplay.

Usually visual novels are toned down when ported to a console, in order to receive a lower CERO rating.  It appears that CHAOS;HEAD NOAH will not be toned down, and may in fact be even more extreme considering that the PC version of the game had a minimum age of 15 for purchase.

Time will tell whether or not having a Z rating will hurt the game’s sales, but perhaps 5pb assumes that the fanbase is old enough to purchase the game and will appreciate a non-censored version.  Z titles have sold well enough on the 360 in the past, which would assume that most of the system owners are over 18.

Microsoft doesn’t want to overhype 2009

Posted in News, Xbox 360 with tags , , on January 13, 2009 by Stephen

Microsoft Aaron Greenberg is happy about 2008.

In recent interview with G4TV, Greenberg ranted about all the triple A titles Micrsoft released last year for Xbox 360 and how these titles went on to become top sales for the green machine in 2008.

So, what are the titles? You don` need to be a rocket scientist to figure out Left 4 Dead, Call of Duty: Worlds at War and Gears of War 2 were top sellers in 2008.

What else did he say? Xbox 360 has 1 million unit lead over PS3 in Europe, Xbox 360 can coexist in the same universe with Wii without an atom explosion and Sony is destined to reduce the price of the PS3 sooner than later if they wish to remain in the game.

What about 2009 lineup? Nothing new besides the announcement of Halo Wars and Halo 3 :ODST.

To paraphrase Greenberg here: “Microsoft will announce whatever they have for this year when those games are ready to launch”

Introduction and Snow on 360

Stoked Screenshot

Hello everyone !

So, it seems we are slowly beginning our blog here on GaijinGamers, so I thought I could start with a short introduction:

Hi, I’m Aymeric, aka Aym, nice to meet you !

Ok, here we go:  I don’t for you, but I’ve seriously been missing a good Snowsports game since the N64-Rare’s 1080 Snowboarding. I got so desesperate that I actually found an emulator in order to play it again… funny how the definition of  “beautiful” about video games change in a few years.

Recently released was Shaun White, with unbalanced reviews, which didn’t quite charm me enough to buy it, yet. But have you heard about Stoked (here too) ? Now this sounds serious, maybe a bit late after Shaun’s sales, but still potentially good nonetheless.

What do you guys think, anyone of you even bought Shaun ?
